Company Director:

Beverly Cordova Duane, founder and director of Second Wind Dance Company, Hampton Road’s only prolific modern dance company, has been honored locally and nationally. At the State University of New York at Brockport, she earned her masters degree in dance and the Pylyshenko-Strasser award for choreographic excellence. She danced professionally in Boston, New York and Canada. Beverly has choreographed and taught for the International Festival for the Arts, the Jamaica National School of Dance, SUNY Brockport College, Old Dominion University and the Governor’s School for the Arts as well as at various national dance conferences. In 1996, she performed in Atlanta’s Olympic Concert under Laura Wright. She choreographed Dayuma, a nationally touring multimedia production, and Godspell, which was voted Portfolio Magazine’s best musical of 1992 in Hampton Roads. Her dance Beauty for Ashes won national acclaim at the National High School Dance Festival in 1994. Beverly was recently honored with Portfolio Magazine’s award for Hampton Road’s choreographer of the year award for the year 2000-2001. Beverly is a Chesapeake Fine Arts Commissioner and an advocate for the arts and artists in her community.
